ABOUT TCM

TCM (Turner Classic Movies) is a 24-hour cable, satellite and digital terrestrial channel that launched in the US in 1990 and in the UK and Europe in 1999 as part of the Time Warner group. Currently the third highest rating UK movie channel, TCM draws on a unique and extensive library of 20th century movies, selecting Hollywood’s finest quality films from the ‘golden age’ to contemporary classics.

TCM provides behind-the-scenes insight and analysis with originally produced programmes including OFF SET, featuring exclusive interviews with contributors from the entertainment and film industry, sharing their thoughts on particular subjects or passions. Contributors have included: Billy Crystal; Natascha McElhone; George Clooney; Ron Livingston; Iain Softley; Ismail Merchant and Greta Scaachi. Documentaries and original trailers add context and historic perspective, whilst themed seasons contemporise enduring favourites ensuring that silver screen icons never go out of fashion. Each month two classic movies feature as part TCM Select, giving viewers the chance to sample or revisit definitive movie moments.

Regular hosted themed seasons include: Oscar Month when nominated or winning films are shown daily, hosted by Stephen Fry; Crime Wave which investigates all aspects of the popular genre features interviews with Martin Kemp and Jamie Cullum. And Style in Motion, a celebration of all the glamour surrounding fashion in film features Ozwald Boateng, Bella Freud along with Mark Badgely and James Mischka.

TCM also runs an annual short film competition in partnership with the bfi London Film Festival. With prize money of £10,000 the competition, TCM Classic Shorts, is one of the most valuable in Europe. Each year a number of key film industry figures donate their valuable time to judge the competition and help TCM to find and nurture the film making talent of tomorrow. Past and present judges include: Dame Helen Mirren, Gurinder Chadha, Alan Rickman, Kate Winslet, Ewan MacGregor, Jude Law, Lord Puttnam, Sir Alan Parker, Stephen Woolley, Nik Powell and Bernardo Bertolucci.

On average 5.82 million viewers tune in to TCM each month

TCM enjoyed its highest ever reach when 6.7 million viewers tuned in during December 2004

In 2004 TCM was the 3rd highest rated movie channel behind Sky Movies 1 and Sky Movies 2

Why do the shedules say one thing and you broadcast another?
We provide our schedules to national papers and specialised cable & satellite magazines six weeks or more before they come out. Some times we have to make changes due to circumstances beyond our control, but the papers & magazines have already been printed and cannot be changed. For a complete and up-to-date schedule check out our online schedule or consult your Teletext service.

Your Teletext service is incorrect?
A third party operates the Teletext service and they do their best to keep it up-to-date, there can be a delay between the change and the update. Listings are on page 120.

Subtitles and services for the hard of hearing.
If you require subtitles please use the Teletext button on your TV remote control whilst TCM is on screen.This will take you to the TCM Teletext services.

What is Classic Shorts?
TCM's annual Classic Shorts competition is open to all up and coming UK filmmakers and is known as one of the most valuable and prestigious short film prizes in Europe. Held in conjunction with the London Film Festival, Classic Shorts has discovered some of the best new talent in the country and the 2002 winner 'About a Girl' went on to win the BAFTA for best short film. Judges for 2004 included Lord David Puttnam, Alan Parker, Jonny Lee Miller and Stephen Woolley.
